2024 Parent Presentation

The Grand Cascades Rapids Swim Team is for instructional, recreational competitive swimming. The driving principles of the team are fun, improvement, and safety. All Grand Cascades neighborhood children who are able to swim a lap across the pool unassisted (ages 4-18) are invited to participate on our Rapids Swim Team. We have two groups, “Rapids” (fun & competitive) and “Ripples” (young beginners, ages 4-8).

Our Teams
The Rapids are a competitive and fun team that has enjoyed much success over the last 20 seasons. The Rapids have won the Forsyth County Championship Meet for over 15 years! Swimmers compete with other nearby neighborhoods such as Aberdeen, Laurel Springs, Olde Atlanta Club, Three Chimneys, Chattahoochee River Club, and the City of Alpharetta. But winning is not our main focus. Along with some good old fashioned hard work, we have lots of fun and games for the kids. All of our swimmers are invited to the “Dive-In Movie” nights one weekend during the season. Our teens can participate in our annual overnight “lock-in” with all their team friends for a supervised night of fun at the GC pool and clubhouse. As a prerequisite, Rapids swimmers are expected to swim the length of the pool unassisted in both freestyle and backstroke, and participate in daily rigorous, age-appropriate level practices.

The Ripples are our beginning swimmers, ages 4-8, that will one day become our Rapids. Small group lessons each day build the skills and confidence needed to become strong swimmers. The requirements for Ripples are that swimmers be at least 4 years of age and no older than 8, potty-trained, can be independent of parent, can tread water (are water safe) and willing to put their face in the water.  We also ask that they possess a willingness to fully and eagerly participate. Our great coaches will make tremendous progress with our youngest swimmers in a surprisingly short time. Practices are conducted in small groups with an in-water and hands-on coach. Advanced Ripples will gradually work up to a Rapids level practice regimen and "graduate" when ready.
